Description :

Kalakshetra was established in 1936, it is a cultural academy which is dedicated to the Indian art and particularly to the fields of Bharatanatyam dance and Gandharvaveda music. It was founded by Rukmini Devi Arundale, this Kalakshetra for its unique style and perfection has achieved national and international recognition.

After moving to its new location which is 99 acres in Besant Nagar, Chennai, India got its recognition from Indian Parliament as Kalakshetra Foundation and as an Institute of National Importance.

Rukmini Devi Arundale studied Pandanallur style for three years but in 1936 she has started developing her own Kalakshetra which is style of Bharatanatyam.

Out Side Kalakshetra even now people sell saris woven in the founder Rukmini Devi Arundale designs.
