Renaissance center is located in international riverfront, Detroit, Michigan, United states. The construction of this center started in the year 1973 and completed in the year 1977. The renaissance center is the head quarters of general motors. The principal architect of this original design is john Portman. The first phase consists of restaurants, brokerage firms, banks, a four-screen movie theatre, and private clubs and the phase was opened in March 1977. The General motors gained renovation of US$500 million of the class-A center as its world headquarters. The Renaissance center work continued around the complex until 2005.

The first phase of construction was started in 1971 the Ford Motor Company owner Henry Ford II group with other business leaders to form Detroit Renaissance has announced to construct the first phase of the center. The former president Gerald Ford and presidential nominee Ronald Reagan both hosted the republican national convention at the center. The hotel which is located at the center is Marriott hotel and is called Detroit Marriott at the center. The profit of this Renaissance center provides the development and restorations throughout the city.

The Turner Construction Company has taken the majority of constructions operations. The redevelopment at the center has worked by various architects Owings & Merrill and Skidmore of Chicago. The entire steel and structural glass for the winter garden, Mezzanine glass walkway was provided by Mero. The cost of the renovations not includes the redevelopment of streets around the center or the park along the riverfront.

On the top of its towers the center added colored LED lighting. The large logo of general motors is added which displays GM divisions. The experience architects of Detroit have praised the renaissance center construction design. The economy of this center not only improved but also improved the Detroit economy.
