CABLE CAR MUSEUM



Description :

Cable car museum was inaugurated in 1974 it is located in San Francisco. It is a free museum that is Non profit educational facility and operated by friends of the cable car museum in the Nob Hill neighborhood of San Francisco and historic Washington/mason cable car barn and power house, California. This cable car system exhibits historical and explanatory items and this museum over looks like a winding wheels and huge engines that pull the cables.


The museums has collection of examples of cars together with smaller exhibits and a shop and also display the different mechanical devices such as track, grips, cable, brake mechanisms, detailed models, tools and a large collection of historic photographs. The museum is also the part of the complex that includes cable car power house which drives the cables and the car depot. The car depot is not permit but to look the large area and large over look of the streets of Washington and the streets of mason and to view the haulage cables are routed out to the street.


The friends of cable car museum also sponsor the events such as memorable event in 1997 which sponsored a celebration at Victorian park to anem the Powell Hyde line turnaround the “friedel klussmann memorial turnaround”. On June 21st 2004 20th anniversary was celebrated at the washing ton & mason car barn for rebuilding of the cable car system during 1982-1984 season. Many safety measures are taken to rebuild the cable car system and it was a great achievement.


On June 21st 1984 the four days were celebrated in the return of the cable cars. The function was begun by the ceremony of ribbon cutting at noon in union square. And the function is followed by the U.S Marine Corps band and a parade of cable cars up Powell Street. The cable car museum is visited by tourists all around us and also from various places from the world. Every year the contest is going to participate by the friends of the cable car museum in the San Francisco municipal railway’s annual cable car bell ringing contest.
